"Come Together"
2003/4 (? I don't remember, sorry)
mixed media: watercolor, colored pencil, graphite on cold press illustration board.
Original price: $375
On sale for: $125
This piece was originally conceived of as a concept for a public mural on a tall, slim building, and is meant to represent the disconnect between the opposing "sides" in the city where I live. It was created after a mural I proposed (different image) was accepted and then ultimately rejected due to racism disguised as NIMBYism. The conversations that followed that experience revealed a lot more about the way some of my neighbors saw the others, and the way blame was assigned and then used to justify & excuse aggressive racism. It was an attempt at an editorial piece (which may or may not have been successful)
This original piece is created with layers of watercolor & colored pencil, created over many hours and resulting in a soft, slightly textured surface.
